Applying Organisation, Coordinating Centre, Directing Partner

The Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences is an interdisciplinary, privately-run Art Academy. It was founded in 1973 and has state recognition since 2002. It is a centre of artistic development and academic research offering bachelor and master courses. Students can study to become artists (in faculties for Painting, Sculpture, Drama, Eurhythmy or Architecture) as well as economists or teachers. In addition, there are courses in Philosophy, Art and Social Studies. The qualifications correspond to those from other art academies and universities. An important area of research and study is in the field of "Social Dialogue", which deals with artistic activities in a social and pedagogical context (Institute of Art in Social Dialogue and in a Social Context). Special courses are offered in these subjects. The University works in partnership with an Adult Education Centre (Alanus Werkhaus).

The tasks within the project:
The Alanus University is the applying institution, the coordination centre and the directing partner of the project. It has a wealth of experience in running artistic projects whether it is for socially disadvantaged groups, in vocational training or simply as a teaching tool, and it has asumed responsible for the professional and artistic management of the whole project. Tutors and staff from the University develop the art projects for pupils together with teachers. They take part in the implementation and train teachers so that the projects can continue independently in the future. The University is also developing a special teachers' training course and sees the establishment and maintenance of a European Network for art and schools as an important goal. It also promotes political support for the role of artistic activities in education in general. Finally the University is in charge of organising the preparation of the projects and all aspects of publication.
